RUF 70 Weigh-Ins: Sengsavanh Returns in Phoenix Main Event

RUF 70 is set for Saturday night, and there’s a lot more going on with this card than nine fights on a bout sheet. Fighters weighed in Friday at SanTan Brewery in Chandler, so we’re good to go at Celebrity Theatre in Phoenix. Doors open at 5 PM, with the first bout at 7 PM. There’s an amateur middleweight title on the line, several pro fighters we’ll be seeing through the MMA Stalker lens for the first time, and a main event featuring Amari Sengsavanh, who hasn’t been on our cameras in more than two years. A Few Fights Have Our Attention Issouf Doumbia (3-2) meets debuting Steven Humphries for the amateur middleweight title. Doumbia knocked out Tafu Mamea at RUF 68 in May in one of the cleaner amateur finishes we’ve filmed this year. Humphries, meanwhile, is making his first amateur appearance and doing it with a belt on the line. Tough assignment for both guys in completely different ways: Doumbia has experience and film, while Humphries gives him absolutely nothing to study. FOLLOW FIGHT RESULTS LIVE At flyweight, Isidro Benavidez III is back after submitting Manuel Medina at RUF 69 in July. He faces Zach Carter, who is still looking for his first win. They weighed in just over a pound apart, and with only one victory between them, there isn’t much reason for either guy to spend Saturday night being cautious. The Pro Card Gets Interesting Quickly Ethan Goodwin comes in with seven professional fights and makes his first appearance in our coverage against Patrick Quick Jr. Elijah Jimenez makes his pro debut against Dillon Pousson, who we haven’t filmed since RUF 54 in 2023. Jacob Guerrero is 6’4”, weighs 175.4 pounds and faces Justin Trigg. A guy that tall making that weight gets your attention before the cage door even closes. Amado and Langarica Bring Experience to the Co-Main Then there’s the co-main: Adam Amado against Jesse Langarica. Amado submitted Alim Muhammad at RUF 68 in May. Langarica brings nine professional fights of his own. Between the two of them, there’s enough cage time that neither needs to spend much energy protecting a pretty record. Amari Sengsavanh Is Back Sengsavanh is 8-1 and weighed 140.5 pounds for the main event against Kurtis Ellis, who came in at 134.4. The last time we had Sengsavanh on camera was April 2024, when he beat Thomas Prestriedge by unanimous decision at RUF 58. Two years and four months is a long time in a fighter’s development. That’s probably the biggest question we’re carrying into Saturday night: What does Amari Sengsavanh look like now? Ellis is 3-9, taller at 5’11”, and has the kind of record that usually tells you something records don’t say very well: this is a guy who keeps answering the phone and taking fights. There’s also a grappling match between Andres Ponce and Gabriel De Los Santos. So yes, everybody made weight. Now we get to the interesting part.
